Who, What, When, Where, Why and How

31 May

Draw near.

The who, what, when, where, why and how of drawing near to God.

Who?  Sinners & double-minded.  The word for sinners, hamartooloi, is a sharp term meant to strike the conscience.  It is a reproach meant to startle and sting.  In other words, anyone and all of us.

What?  Draw near.  Eggizo, or draw near, is a command.  It means to approach.  It comes from a verb which means to squeeze–we can come that close to God in our prayers and fellowship.

When?  The verb is written in the tense which means, START RIGHT NOW!

Where?  Anywhere!

How?  By cleansing your hands and purifying your hearts.  Dedicating them or consecrating them.

Why?  Because God will draw near to you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.  Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye double minded.  James 4:8

Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery]. Amp.
