A few weeks ago I asked my son in jest, “Do you think I’m addicted to reading?” He paused and quite seriously asked, “Does your life feel out of control?”
I’ve been thinking about his response and this morning I was reading a book called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. In this book by Susan Jeffers is a list of clues that we may not be taking responsibility for our lives, but expecting others to take responsibility for us. Here is the short list: anger, blaming others, vengeance, self-pity, envy, helplessness, impatience, joylessness, attempt to control others, addictions, judgmentalness, and jealousy. Ms. Jeffers recommends that when we feel these feelings we need to check and see what we are not doing in our lives that is causing the feeling, her point being that we often have expectations that others meet our needs. I’m thinking that thing we are not doing is throwing ourselves at the foot of the cross, for
God can.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:19
And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Amp.)
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. (Message)
