We’re staying at Mike’s parents’ house for a few days and Dad read us this quote from R.A. Torrey’s book, What the Bible Teaches, about worship:
Worship is the soul bowing itself in adoring contemplation before the object worshipped. To worship God is to bow before God in adoring contemplation of Him.
The root of the Hebrew word translated “worship” in the Old Testament means “to bow down.” It has been well said, “In prayer we are occupied with our needs, in thanksgiving we are occupied with our blessings, in worship we are occupied with Himself.”
Torrey challenges His readers (and in the process knocked me upside the head) asking how much time we truly spend worshipping God. How much?
