5 Days ’til Christmas

20 Dec

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. 2 Cor. 8:9

Jesus left the riches of heaven and was born in humble circumstances to bless us with His riches.  I don’t know if he was born in a shack-like stable or in a cave, but I do know that He chose to have parents of humble circumstances, the better to identify with us.  And, oh, the riches he offers:  love, relationship, peace, eternal life. . .

And although this time of year we are focussed on the sweet Christmas story, we need to remember that this sweet babe grew up and is mighty!

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”  Rev. 1:8

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, indicating that Jesus is the beginning and end of all things.

Almighty is sometimes translated almighty (duh), and sometimes translated omnipotent (all powerful).  Not only did He promise us riches, but He is powerful enough to make this come to pass.  It also means, he who holds sway over ALL things and the ruler of all.  Baby Jesus.  King Jesus.  The beginning and the end.  Amen.
