. . . and today I’m getting ready for the church Christmas dinner which is to be held at our house tomorrow. We usually have it at church, but this year we are combining it with baptisms which will take place in our pool. Yes, we’re excited about the food, gifts, baptisms, and fellowship, but I want us to be mostly excited by Jesus! Right now I’m taking a break from decorating. I’m putting my collection of nativity scenes, candles, and lights around the house.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12
Jesus is the light of the world and the light of my life. The Online Bible Greek Lexicon says that light means:
1) light
2) metaphorically, it means:
2a) God is light because light has the extremely delicate, subtle, pure, brilliant quality
2b) of truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it
2c) that which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly
2d) reason, mind
2d1) the power of understanding esp. moral and spiritual truth
I love the idea of the brilliant purity of Jesus — His holiness — along with the truth and brilliance of His Word which is available to all who are willing to receive it.
